The United Arab Emirates (UAE), made up of seven sheikhdoms, including the freewheeling Dubai and oil-rich capital Abu Dhabi, has become a hub for young professionals who are looking for hiring in UAE.
But the pandemic has triggered a global economic crisis that, according to study, could result in the loss thousands of jobs in the UAE among a population of less than 10 million and forcing 10% of expatriate residents to leave.
Recruiters in the UAE said the number of vacancies will rise next year as the job market slowly recovers. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused a severe downturn in the labor market this year, with many employees from various sectors being laid off, sent on unpaid leave, or receiving pay cuts. But recruiters say recruitment is slowly gaining traction, opening up many opportunities in e-commerce and distribution.

After working from home became the new norm in the UAE during the Covid-19 outbreak, now hybrid hiring is the latest hiring trend as recruiters and HR are looking for employees who can wear multiple hats together. According to the Trading Econimic chart, employment changes in the United Arab Emirates averaged 1.74% from 2016 to 2020, reaching an all-time high of 3.60% in the 2017 second quarter and a record low of -0.90% in the fourth quarter of 2018.
Compared to previous months, the growth rate is 54% for the Internet and e-commerce, 73% for the medical clinic, 150% for software development, 164% for IT services and 275% for distribution and logistics.
Ali Matar, LinkedIn’s head of the Middle East and Africa and Emerging Markets Europe and Africa, told Reuters, “We are seeing a cautious recovery. Hopefully the worst is over”. Technology and software vacancies increased the most, by 66%, accelerating a trend that took place before the pandemic, while health Care vacancies rose 28% Matar said. Thousands of people seem to have lost their jobs, received wage cuts and have returned or are about to return to their countries.
